How Mum-Raiser™ Works
Mum-Raiser™ is more than a fall fundraiser—it’s a year-long partnership between your Scout unit and Mama Grizzly. From planning next year’s crop to celebrating your unit’s success, we work together every step of the way.
November – January | Program Enrollment
Planning for next year’s Mum-Raiser™ begins shortly after the current season ends. During this enrollment period, Scout units reserve their place for the upcoming year, allowing Mama Grizzly to begin planning production.

- Express interest in participating.
- Designate a Mum-Raiser™ Coordinator.
- Estimate the number of participating Scouts.
- Share your fundraising goals.
- Confirm participation by January 31.
Mama Grizzly
- Reviews returning Scout units.
- Meets with new units.
- Estimates seasonal demand.
- Begins planning production.
February – March | Production Planning
Once program enrollment is complete, Mama Grizzly begins planning the growing season. During this phase, we determine how many mums to grow, establish each unit’s initial allocation, and order the baby mum plants that will become this year’s beautiful fall garden mums.

- Finalize estimated Scout participation.
- Confirm your Mum-Raiser™ Coordinator.
- Confirm your fundraising goals.
- Notify Mama Grizzly of any changes before production begins.
Mama Grizzly
- Finalizes initial unit allocations.
- Estimates production by mum color.
- Orders baby mum plants in March.
- Maintains a reasonable reserve for additional allocations and traditional nursery sales.
April – June | Building the Tools
While our baby mum plants are growing, Mama Grizzly is busy preparing everything your unit needs for a successful fundraiser. During this phase, we build your online fundraising tools, prepare your marketing materials, and configure your unit’s online ordering system so everything is ready when school begins.

- Tell us what your unit is raising money for.
- Submit your Mum-Raiser™ Coordinator’s contact information.
- Provide a list of participating Scouts (First Name + Last Initial)
- Review your unit web page for accuracy.
- Approve your unit web page before launch.
Mama Grizzly
- Builds your dedicated Mum-Raiser™ web page.
- Creates your unit’s unique QR code.
- Generates your short web address.
- Prepares your Scout & Family Cheat Sheet.
- Configures your unit’s online ordering system.
- Enters your unit’s inventory allocations by color.
- Builds your Scout selection list & General Fund option.
July | Potting Days
Each July, our baby mum plants arrive from one of our trusted growing partners. Because they need to be transplanted into their final 8-inch nursery pots within two days, we invite participating Scouts, leaders, and parents near Seneca to join us for our July Potting Days.
Participation is completely optional, but it’s a wonderful opportunity to see how your fundraiser begins, spend time with other Scout families, and experience firsthand how your mums are grown and cared for before they’re delivered in October.

Volunteers
- Fill 8-inch nursery pots with growing media.
- Plant baby mum plants.
- Label pots by color.
- Organize newly planted mums.
- Water newly planted mums.
Mama Grizzly
- Provides all plants, pots, soil, and supplies.
- Demonstrates proper planting techniques.
- Organizes and stages the growing areas.
- Continues watering, fertilizing, and caring for the crop throughout the summer.
- Keeps volunteers fed with cold drinks and plenty of appreciation!
August – September | Mum-Raiser™ Sales
As the mums continue growing, your fundraiser is ready to begin. At your first Scout meeting of the school year, a Mama Grizzly representative introduces the program, explains how everything works, and answers questions from Scouts, families, and leaders.
Scouts begin sharing their unit’s unique QR code and web page with friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers. Customers order directly from your unit’s online fundraiser, while Mama Grizzly handles the technology, inventory, payment processing, and order management behind the scenes.

Your Unit
- Distribute your Scout & Family Cheat Sheets.
- Share your unit’s QR code and web address.
- Encourage Scouts to invite family and friends to participate.
- Answer basic unit fundraising questions.
- Contact Mama Grizzly if additional inventory may be needed.
Customers
- Scan the QR code or visit your unit’s web page.
- Choose mum colors and quantities.
- Select General Fund or the Scout they wish to support.
- Pay securely online by debit or credit card.
- Receive an email confirmation with delivery information.
Mama Grizzly
- Tracks unit inventory automatically.
- Processes secure online payments.
- Sends customer confirmations.
- Assists Mum-Raiser™ Coordinators with questions.
- Manages inventory adjustments when available.
- Closes online ordering on September 30.
October | Delivery & Celebrate
After weeks of growing and a successful fundraising season, it’s time to celebrate! Mama Grizzly delivers your unit’s beautiful garden mums to a scheduled Scout meeting during the second or third week of October. Families pick up their orders, your unit receives its fundraising proceeds, and everyone celebrates another successful Mum-Raiser™.
More than just a delivery day, this meeting is an opportunity to recognize the Scouts who made the fundraiser a success, thank everyone who participated, and capture memories that will inspire next year’s fundraiser.
